Morning Surf with The Beach People Boys

With the name, The Beach People, we have a certain expectation to live up to.... that is, that we really are 'beach' kind of people. So it was no accident that our employees love to spend their spare time at the beach, particularly our boys Aidan and Brenton. These two are always up before sunrise fitting in a morning surf before work, and straight back out for an afternoon session before sundown.

We met them at one of their favourite spots at famous Kirra Beach, QLD for their usual morning surf and asked them a few questions about their dream boards and surf destinations.

Read on below and see the boys using our new Surf Ponchos designed by surfers, for surfers.

where is your Favourite surf spot on the Gold Coast?

Kirra Beach for sure, no questions asked, during the week it is pretty quiet compared to other spots nearby and the wave quality is exactly the same if not better.

What board do you ride?

Most of the time I only ride a long board up here on the coast, it’s the only way to get a wave haha. I also ride a 5’4 Hypto for when the surf is too critical for a long board.

when is your Favourite time to go surfing?

I like to go as much as possible given the conditions. Before work is great, I think it’s the best way to start a day. In saying that, nothing beats a sunset session with your mates after a day of work, catching party waves, seeing the sun dip behind the hills, and the moon rise is pretty unbeatable.

Best spot for a post surf coffee?

Sustainable Surf Collab in Coolie is unbeatable :)

Coffee order?

Small flat white with a single shot, sometimes a double shot... sometimes a chai, varies on the day I guess. No real go-to or must have order.

If you could travel anywhere for a morning surf where would it be?

Mmmmm, the possibilities! Way too difficult to narrow down to one! Each morning I would change between; Chicama in Peru, Inside and Outside Ekas and Super suck, Scar Reef, both in Indonesia, Raglan in New Zealand, Mentawaiis and a few secrets spots back home in Forster, where I grew up.

What's your dream board?

Too hard! 9’1 Thomas longboard, 7’6 coloursphere midlength, 5’2 coloursphere twinnie and a 5’2 Cymatic Slater design.

where is your Favourite surf spot on the Gold Coast?

I live right near The Alley which is a great long boarding wave most of the time, but it’s usually really crowded. You can’t go wrong with finding a beach break somewhere, with only a couple of people out.

What board do you ride?

I have a 5’11 fish and a 9’6 that I ride most of the time and then I have an 8’ single fin that I take out occasionally if the conditions are right.

when is your Favourite time to go surfing?

Hard to beat a sunrise surf, less crowds and is a great way to start the day. A surf before AND after work is a bonus!

Best spot for a post surf coffee?

My local is Good Day Coffee which I think has the best coffee on the coast. They also have a great name.

Coffee order?

Double shot flat white or piccolo.

If you could travel anywhere for a morning surf where would it be?

Recently I have been wanting to get to New Zealand on a surf trip, but I have surfed Java before and the weather and waves there are hard to beat.

What's your dream board?

There are so many good boards being made all over the place. I've always wanted to try out a Vbowls from Ryan Lovelace.
