Our Guide to Coronado Island

Victoria and I recently traveled to Coronado Island, located just off the coast of San Diego, California. Our sole purpose for the visit was to open a store at Hotel Del Coronado, which we are proud to say is open from 10 AM to 6 PM, seven days a week, located in the shopping precinct of Hotel Del. While we were there, we became enchanted by Coronado Island. It’s delicious food, kind people, and the beauty of the town. Despite being busy with opening our new store, we managed to explore the area. Here is what we loved about Coronado Island.

  1. 60% of all visitors to San Diego visit Hotel Del Coronado, and with good reason! Constructed in 1888, The Hotel Del Coronado is one of the most iconic hotels in San Diego, offering a premier destination for a luxury hotel experience. Even if you can’t stay overnight, we highly encourage you to visit for the day. You can rent a chair on the beach, a bike, or simply walk around and enjoy the historical landmarks, museums (a must-visit), architecture, stunning gardens, shops (hint hint—ours is there), and the fantastic food! Oh, the food! You can dine at one (or all) of the five restaurants: Serea (Greek-inspired, try the 'Message in a Bottle' dessert), The Ocean Club (ideal for sunset views), Taco Shack (don't miss the surf and turf taco), ENO Pizzeria, and The Sun Deck (reopening soon). Before your visit, make sure to check out Hotel Del Coronado's website to catch one of their many holiday activations; Christmas time boasts a spectacular light show and ice skating rink.

  2. Here's a rundown of our culinary adventures. Being so close to Mexico (just a 20-minute drive away), the Mexican food here deserves double 'praise hands' emojis. Our favourite spot is Miguel's Cocina! Be sure to try their tasting plate, skirt steak taco, and fried ice cream—all homemade and delicious. For breakfast and coffee, Parakeet Cafe is amazing; try the Iced Latte with mint! At Little Frenchie, the French onion soup has the perfect cheese-to-soup ratio. And then there's The Henry—just one word: French toast. Yes, we ate a lot haha.

  3. We also enjoyed a morning of beach yoga with Mary from Hotel Del followed by a stroll along the beach and surrounding streets. The architecture and stunning homes made us feel like we were in a Nancy Meyers film.

  4. Take a walk down Orange Avenue and explore the shops. We particularly loved Française, a French-inspired store with many treasures. Victoria and I found some lovely gifts for our children at Geppetto's kids store. We could have spent the entire day wandering around Orange Avenue.

We are already looking forward to our next visit to Hotel Del and Coronado Island.
