BTS with The Beach People Flagship Store

Byron Bay…

Wide open sandy beaches, rocky headlands, perfect rolling waves, aqua blue water, a stunning light house, world class restaurants, shops, friendly locals and a holistic approach to life! Yep we love it! So when we were asked by Habitat Byron Bay if we would like to open a store within their precinct we couldn’t help but say YES!

There would be no location more perfect to open our first flagship store. Pinch me!

Habitat has beautiful bones to start with so I knew my ‘vision' would come together quickly. I met with local designer Simon Lucas to go over my vision and mood for the store and we set out to design a beautiful yet functional space together.

Part of my inspiration was ‘Masseria Moroseta’ a modern resort/ farmhouse in Italy. Adorned with white rendered archways, organic sandstone, natural timbers and a white & cream colour palette, the space creates a feeling of relaxation and simplicity. Combined with complimenting textures, tones and a few cacti, it’s a dreamy location and I knew it would suit our aesthetic.

I must say though, I hit panic mode faster than a speeding bullet, as we had to open in just under 3 weeks! Enter tradesman husband of the year (times forever) Josh Henderson!

So it all began and it wasn’t long before our space was beginning to take shape. I love to blend a little old with new, to make spaces feel more soulful. A trip to my favourite antique centre (Chinderah Bay Antique centre) for some vintage ceramics and rustic hooks, coupled with lighting from Australian Designer Sibella Court, a stunning custom mirror from local maker Salt and Steel, several trips to a secret timber mill to choose the perfect raw slab of timber for our custom table, and we were almost there.

Two days before we opened Victoria and I regularly turned to each other and said, “this is what The Block must be like!”, late nights and early mornings with the babies in tow. My middle daughter Daisy said to me late one evening before bed, “Mum, I hope your people love The Beach People shop because you have so many things in your car”, little darling!

It all came together, and we couldn't have pulled it off so quickly without the support of our community! Local makers, creators and tradespeople we salute you!
