A Travel Guide to San Diego

We join content creator and friend of TBP, Sarah Norian, as she shares her must-visit beaches, local eats and hidden gems from across San Diego, California…

Hey Sarah, thanks so much for taking the time to show us around the beautiful seaside city of San Diego. Can you tell us how long you’ve lived in the area?

I moved out to San Diego in 2016. I am from rainy Olympia, Washington and typed in “schools on the beach” when I decided I wanted to leave my home state to go to college – that’s when I found myself in Southern California, surfing every day, and running around with salty hair and no shoes!

What’s your favourite thing about living here?

I will never get over how beautiful the ocean is, it’s completely mesmerising! Honestly I love California in general just for how diverse it is. I can drive three hours to the desert or three hours to go snowboarding in the mountains which makes life every fun and adventurous! Also the weather is pure perfection.

What are your favourite beaches in the area?

My absolute favourite beach is Windansea! It’s a locals favourite and has the most turquoise waters and cool rocky landscape (pretty much every photo on my Instagram is taken there).

Where do you get your caffeine fix?

Hermosa Surf Shop has an insanely good matcha and Mission Bay Beach Club (vegan cafe) has my favourite latte called aloha latte.

Best spots for a bite to eat?

  • Board and Brew for a quick sandwich

  • North Side Shack for an açaí bowl

  • Raised by Wolves for a hidden speakeasy bar

  • Herringbone or Lumi for a nice dinner

Favourite places to get outside and enjoy nature?

  • Snorkeling at La Jolla Cove

  • 3 sisters waterfall hike

  • Glyder Point to watch the paragliders and surfers

  • Electric biking everywhere!

Can you share your favourite hidden gems?

  • Walking in the caves at Sunset Cliffs on low tide

  • There’s a little trail in Point Loma that is along the water and the trail is decorated like a little fairy garden - it’s so cute and magical!

  • Rooftop Cinema Club (movie played on a projector on a rooftop with a view of San Diego)
