How to Plan the Perfect Picnic

Summer is one of our favourite seasons for picnics - there’s no better time to head to the beach or the park with a basket full of delicious food and drinks, as you soak up the sunshine. We consulted a picnic expert, Vicky Ryvchin from Milk and Honey Picnics, to find out the top tips for planning a beautiful picnic this Summer...

  1. Choose your location

Opt for a location that suits the vibe you want for your picnic, whether it be beach side, in the city with a view or even in your backyard (some of the best picnic parties are held in backyards!)

  2. Plan what you intend to serve

The food you choose is very important, you need to be conscious of the weather conditions. Chocolate melts, seafood doesn’t keep for long, a full rump of steak isn't appropriate. You ideally want simple fingers foods that can withstand being outdoors for a few hours.

3. Style your picnic

Style the setting with beautiful rugs or towels which are also comfortable and cosy to sit on. Bring your own plates, cutlery and napkins from home to add some texture and save you from using throwaway, plastic alternatives. You can also add some florals and candles to the middle of the table (if you’re styling a full picnic table). A cluster of different sized candles at each end of the table is a simple and effective way to create a mood. If you're having an evening picnic, add some fairy lights for a beautiful ambience.

4. Extra comforts

If you plan to be out for a while, bring a bluetooth speaker and some lawn games (or even a Paddle & Ball Set) for entertainment. You can also bring some extra picnic towels and cushions to lounge around after you've all eaten.

5. Hire a professional

If you want to create something really special, you can hire a professional picnic planner like Milk & Honey Picnics and have the whole event taken care of for you!
