Whether it’s school holidays or a rainy day and you’re looking for simple DIY activities to keep your little ones entertained, I’ve got just the inspiration you need. I thought I would share some fun and easy craft ideas that you can try at home. I actually love to craft and often find myself sitting there crafting away when the children have all left me to go jump on the trampoline outside... like when you put a kids movie on to distract them for a minute and then you’re the only one left sitting there watching David Attenborough’s Life of Tigers all alone… mum life.

Simple is aways best in my option and you don’t need a whole bunch of materials either. Just go hunting in your backyard or go through your recycling.

Mix and Match Rock Dolls

An oldie but a goodie! This is our take on rock painting…

You will need:

Rocks - some big for the bodies and some small for the heads. I took my girls down to the beach with baskets to collect their rocks.
Posca pens or even just normal pens
How-to:

On the smaller head shaped rocks, draw different faces - some boys, some girls, some with glasses on, some old, some young.

3. Play! You can mix and match different heads and outfits. You can create some really crazy and funny combinations, we had a good laugh!

Colouring In

I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but this colouring in book is awesome. We had these beautiful under the sea illustrations from our petite roundie collection and it seemed like a waste to not use them again, so we had our illustrator draw a few more sea creatures, and Vic and I created the rest of the concept - and voila! We had our first colouring in book. The back of the book has a section called ‘Travel Notes’ so you can take your book to the beach and write down what you throughout each of your adventures. We purposely left plenty of space around the illustrations so your little ones have room for free drawing around the animals.

I took things a little further and asked my girls ‘if you could be a sea creature, what would you be? And what super powers does your sea creature have, and why do you like it?’ Just to add some creative writing in there. My nine year old daughter, Lucia, said octopus because she loved its super power of being able to disappear in a cloud of ink, plus they have three hearts, no bones and 8 legs. Good pick Lucia!
