Dads Being Dads

Witty, fun-loving, wise and above all, expert snugglers

- where would we be without our dads!

What do you love most about being a dad?

I love a lot of things about being a dad. One of the best is seeing our kids grow and mature into the person they will become. We are starting to see passions come out with Zippy and her art, and Velzy with his obsession with skateboards and surfboards.

What has surprised you most since becoming a father?

The biggest surprise is how easily kids are moulded by our actions and attitude. They pick up on everything, both good and bad.

How would your little ones describe you in three words...

Fun, loving and silly.

What’s your top advice for fellow dads?

Go with the flow and make your kids do the same. When we had kids they just naturally came along with us on all our trips, we chose to not have strict nap schedules so we could always be on the go! Also don’t worry about the chaos of everyday life, because it comes and goes so fast. Enjoy the little moments.

What do you love most about being a dad?

That I get to parent alongside my incredible wife, Madeline.

What has surprised you most since becoming a father?

How much you remember and learn about your own childhood and upbringing at each new age and stage with your own kids.

How would your little ones describe you in three words…

I have three boys so I will give them one word each. Husk would describe me as Silly, Jorge would say ‘warm’, as in temperature wise. Ha! He loves a snuggle. Miro, well he would describe me as ‘Da!’ as that’s about all he can say in regards to me at the moment.

What’s your top advice for fellow dads?

I’m not sure that I am in the position to give advice, although I have found that constantly reminding myself to ‘be the man I want my boys to grow up to be’ has been helpful.

Tell us your go-to dad joke…

It’s mostly just dad responses rather jokes, like,

The boys: ‘I’m hungry’

Me: ‘Hi Hungry, I’m Dad’

The boys: ‘What time is it?’

Me: ’Time to get a watch’

I’m sorry boys! Haha.

What do you love most about being a father?

I do like the chaos and the complete change of perspective you get from having kids. The stuff that I would worry over back in the day seems so minuscule now. You certainly develop a resilience from the unnecessary distractions out there, focus on the stuff that actually matters and celebrate the small wins, like leaving the house without baby vomit on your T-shirt

What has surprised you most since becoming a father?

The first 3 months were a surprise, not even the old days working 85 hour weeks in kitchen prepares you for that! Despite all the sleepless nights, tears and tantrums, the love you have for your family absolutely trumps everything...

How would your little ones describe you in three words...

We Prefer Mummy.

What’s your top advice for fellow dads?

I'm still trying to figure it out for myself. I do find that being able to cook for the little ones really helps. A mate of mine gave me some great advice once, just do your best and try not to judge other parents, I think that's a good one.
