TBP x Sunday Somewhere
Inspired by lazy days beneath the palms, we introduce to you our exclusive three-piece capsule collection designed in collaboration with Sunday Somewhere. Featuring the Palm Travel Towel, Palm Jute Bag and our first foray into eyewear, the Palm Sunglasses, all designed with a subtle hand drawn palm print as an ode to the seaside minimalist. View the campaign, shot at one of our favourite local spots with the perfect muse, Lisa Smith, and find out how this beautiful collaboration was born…
Can you tell us about your brand and how it all began?
SS - It all started nearly 8 years ago under the Australian sun. With a passion for design, specifically the seventies; an era where everybody lived a Sunday, State of Mind. SUNDAY SOMEWHERE celebrates individuality and inspires action through freedom of expression. We tell our stories through the richness of the people we meet in the incredible places we explore. Our adventures have taken us from Los Angeles to Bali, Saint Tropez, Sicily, Cuba, and even Morocco. Lots of incredible memories, stories and friendships have been made along the way.
What’s the main inspiration behind your products?
SS - Our focus is always considered designs and clean lines, we like to challenge the notion of 'traditional' eyewear. Each season the colour palette changes and influences our next adventure or destination, and we build stories around each silhouette. Our frames are inspired and named after the places we've been and the people we've met. Even our team members have a frame named after each one of them!
Tell us the story behind the beautiful palm print…
TBP - We designed the palm print for Sunday Somewhere as I felt it was a perfect refection of both Sunday Somewhere and The Beach People. Both brands dreaming of somewhere tropical!
What made you want to collaborate with each other?
SS - Fellow sun worshipers!? Say no more! We are both adventure seeking and sea-loving so we thought... 'Hey, when you go to the beach what are the two staple things you bring with you? Your sunnies and a towel'. We were a match made in beach-heaven so we knew we had to reach out to our friends Emma and Victoria to see what fun we could create together. My towel made it to Mallorca with me this summer and made the perfect beach companion.
TBP - Victoria and I have always admired Sunday Somewhere’s sunglasses and frames. When we met the guys at Miami Swim week one year we thought ‘lets do something together’ and we did! We have created a stunning summer set and I’m proud to say I have worn the sunglasses for months now and absolutely love them!
Describe the sea lover who NEEDS this collection
SS - The sea lover that needs this towel is someone who can't sit still, always planning their next sunny adventure and keeps their passport (and sunnies + towel) close to them - just in case.
TBP - With simplicity in mind, I designed this summer set to reflect an easy relaxed day by the sea. This set is for anyone who loves a neutral colour palette and tropical vibes!
Tell us why you chose to shoot in Byron Bay…
TBP - We live just nearby Byron Bay and we love the stunning beaches. Watego's is one of our favourite beaches in the world!
What is it about Lisa Danielle that makes her the perfect muse for this collection?
TBP - Lisa and her husband Jamie create the most beautiful content and we were so glad they were in town to shoot this collaboration for us at the iconic Rae’s hotel at Watego’s Beach. Plus, Lisa really is the ultimate Byron Bay girl in our eyes, so who better to be our muse.
Which is your favourite piece from the collection and how would you style it?
SS - Apart from the SUNDAY SOMEWHERE x The Beach People frame? ;) Our team really loves the ROMEO (specifically the ROMEO in Gold, which we all have), it's a versatile frame that works for both men and women and for many face shapes as well.
TBP - I just love the sunglasses! They are a simple black frame with a white interior. The shape and style goes with anything. I haven’t taken them off! For this photo shoot I styled them with a stunning cream dress from Yoli and Otis. On the weekend I wore them with my black swimsuit, Palm Jute bag and towel to the beach. Style it anyway you like!
What’s next for Sunday Somewhere?
SS - We are always planning a way to hit the 'ESC' key, always chasing the sun. For our next adventure, we are heading back to Los Angeles and hanging out with a group of kickass girls who celebrate community and individuality. They truly live the Sunday State of Mind and we're excited to share in September 2019.
