Get to know photographer, Jessica Ruscoe

Inspired by her creative friends around her, Jessica Ruscoe is an all rounder. She photographs, styles and illustrates, and also happens to be a lovely human! We recently caught up with Jessica, to chat about what it's like being a creative, and the challenges it brings. Read the interview below and see the lovely Kate Martin, with our Oversized Scallop Bag captured by Jessica.

You write, photograph, style and illustrate, what’s your current creative obsession?

I think the combination of styling and photography has captured my attention for the time being! I tend to jump from one thing to the other... I've just moved house though, so I feel like a lot of my 'creativity' is currently being directed towards Ikea and doing up the new place.

WHat do you love most about photography?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what it is about photography that I love so much. I feel drawn to it, it feels instinctive in many ways. With film I love that you're forced to work with a finite amount of shots, I like that it forces you to pause and consider your subject, the composition and the meaning behind each image.

Film or Digital?

Film.

What inspires you day to day?

My friends - they're all incredible, creative people.

What do you find the hardest thing about being a creative?

I think it's common for people to put a lot of pressure on themselves when creating - I know I do that. Sometimes it feels like you're pushing triangles through square holes and nothing is working. That's probably the most frustrating thing, but it's part of the process.

Who would you love to photograph?

My boyfriend, if he ever let me take a damn photo of him! Haha, I don't really have a particular person in mind, but I'd love to work on a series of portrait/multimedia pieces based around photographing young professionals. Also my cat.

Do you have a morning routine?

I absolutely wish I was the kind of person that had an elaborate morning routine (watching 'morning rituals' on youtube is a guilty pleasure of mine haha). But not really. The few things that are consistent include making a French press coffee, spending a few minutes hanging out with my cat Alfie, and watching Seth Meyers 'The Check In' whilst I do my makeup.

Any upcoming travel?

Paris! And Cassis in the South of France - my two favourite places in the whole world!
