The Making of our Hats
Since the beginning of The Beach People it's always been our mission to create practical seaside essentials that you'll use time and time again. Made for endless beach days and outdoor adventures, our new Hats were designed to be functional, stylish and sun safe. We chat to our Founders and our Head Designer, Jake, about what inspired the collection and how they’ve been styling their favourites…
What made you decide to create your own collection of hats?
Emma - It felt like a natural progression for us. I have always been a hat lover as I have fair skin and the Australian sun is so strong! Its something I have wanted to do from the start of The Beach People journey.
Jake - A hat is an integral part of any beach day, we always knew it was a category we wanted to dive into. This initial launch is just a taste of what’s to come as we keep expanding on the range.
Vic - The Australian Sun! Also endless beach days seaside and wanting to stay a little longer…
Can you tell us about the four designs and what inspired them?
Emma - We have designed four coastal inspired hats each chic in their own ways with different features. Designed for enhancing your sunny adventures. We added toggles on two hats if you’re on a boat or at a windy location, our bucket hat is perfect for travel and the Isla knit has a fun fashion element…
Jake - Each hat from our first collection was designed with purpose in mind. From the Vacation Bucket Hat, that folds down to nothing so you can pack it on any upcoming holiday, to the Aruba Straw Hat that offers optimal sun protection for a day spent outdoors. Our hats merge our core values of functional and practical, yet aesthetically pleasing. We wanted to create pieces that our community would feel special to wear and I believe there is a style that suits everyone.
Vic - We wanted a variety of hats that felt effortlessly elegant… the four designs came naturally from there.
Which style is your favourite and how have you been wearing it for beach days?
Jake - My favourite style is the Cove Fedora as I love the classic shape. It’s an easy piece to style from the beach to lunch and can be paired back with just about any neutral outfit. I love that we added the chin strap as its just made the hat such an easy go-to.
Emma - I have been wearing the Isla knit on repeat! I like to keep the Vacation Bucket Hat folded up in my hand bag day-to-day in case I end up at the park or in the sun...
Vic - The Aruba as it feels adventurous… I love that it has a toggle under the chin to hold it in position as I am super active with the kids.
