Kids Beach Activities

Summer is almost here, and that means it’s time to plan endless family beach adventures. We know the thought of keeping kids entertained at the beach can seem a little daunting to some, but it’s all about making the most of your surroundings and dreaming up fun activities that you can all enjoy together. Here are our Co-Founder, Victoria’s top three kids beach activities that she has tried and tested with her family…

  1. Self-filling Swimming Pool

We dig a pool just above the waves (make sure the tide is coming in and if it isn’t, make sure the pool is a little closer to the shore). Once we have dug the pool we then dig a river up to 5 metres into the water… then when the next set comes it fills up… get ready and block the water in with sand. Ta-da! A little paddle pool to play in. SAFETY TIP: I am constantly saying to Theodore “keep your eyes on the horizon” to help him learn t to be aware of the sets coming in. Some waves even up to your knees can knock you to your feet. I am always within a few metres of Ted and he is a strong swimmer.

2. Vine Climbing and Dune Jumping

Treat the vines like rope and climb up the dunes, then run and jump off. A simple game but one that we play every time we visit the beach. SAFETY TIP: Be careful of erosion and only play on sloping dunes not cave-like ones as they are unstable.

3. Nest Building

Theodore is reptile obsessed so a “komodo’ nest is something we make every time we go to the beach. It could be a bird nest or whatever interests your child. We collect anything we can find on the beach - shells, sticks and sea sponges, and then we decorate and make a nest. Sometimes this turns into an entire village… It’s so fun and the best part is that I get to sit down while we play this one. Winning!

Last tip: When we leave the beach we always take three for the sea to keep our beaches clean.
