What inspired the idea of working with upcycled denim?

Victoria - We are always on the hunt for new and sustainable textiles, we feel a real responsibility to discover new ways to create and make. When we found this family constructing material in this way, we felt an incredible alignment.

Emma - I have always been a denim lover. But I wasn’t inspired to add the textiles to my home until we met the family who make this incredible textile. They go around to different denim factories and literally sweep the floor, take off cuts and re-weave the fibres into the most beautifully soft upcycled textile. It’s incredible and very inspiring. I can’t wait to design more out of this sustainable textile…

How is upcycled denim different to your average denim in terms of look and feel?

Victoria - Most good quality denim is made from 100% cotton. It’s the way it’s woven that gives it the durability and structure that we are used to. When we work with upcycled denim, it is returned to its original fibre and re-woven to create the textiles that we want.

Emma - It’s denim that has been repurposed into a different textiles. Softer and more user friendly for home purposes like bedding, cushions, table top and even fashion items like our robe…

What effect does this process have on the environment?

Victoria - One positive effect is it saves the discarded denim from going into land fill.

Emma - Very minimal effect environmentally. All cushions inserts are made from 100% recycled bottle tops. Super sustainable, breathable and oh-so soft!

What inspired the different pieces in the range?

Victoria - It was such a beautiful moment when we were shown all the different constructions that these makers could create… we would say “what else can you do?” and out would come another textured textile that we really hadn’t seen before… it was very fun. From there we designed the home collection and so on…

Emma - As you will see from the collection, there are many different tones and textures. I really loved designing all the shapes of the cushions, adding raw edging and using textured finishes to create something unique and special.

Which is your favourite piece in the range and how will you be styling it in your home?

Victoria - I have quite a masculine house and love the duvet…I’ve been product testing it in my home for just over a year and still love it as much as the day I put it on my bed.
