How to get your best summer skin

We all love spending our summer at the beach and in the sun, but there’s no doubt that it takes a toll on our skin. To help you get your best skin this summer, we consulted Stacey Burt, the owner of Little Company. Based in Melbourne and Byron Bay, Little Company is a unique beauty space built around the notion of enjoying a little company, while looking after your skin. Stacey and her team believe in keeping you well from the inside out and the outside in, and feeling a deeper connection with your skin. Get ready to screenshot Stacey’s top summer skin tips…

Tip 1: Cover up

Use wide brimmed hats, loose and lightweight shirts and beautiful beach umbrellas to cover up this summer. It’s important to get some sunshine to boost our vitamin D levels, but if you plan to spend long days in the sun, make sure you are protecting your skin from harmful rays.

Tip 2: Sunscreen is essential!

Just make sure you’re choosing the best option available to you. Conscious sun prevention is paramount to maintaining skin’s vitality. We recommend Nutrient Day Cream Tinted SPF 30 by Josh Rosebrook because it acts as a moisturiser, SPF and tint in one. We have found that it's less likely to irritate sensitive skin compared to some other brands.

Tip 3: Hydrate!

This is a no brainer, but something that is so important. If you need to make things more interesting, boost your water with a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime.

Tip 4: Don’t over-exfoliate

Over-exfoliating can take away some of your skin’s natural protective barrier, leaving fresh, healthy cells open to UV damage. Using an exfoliant that is super gentle once a week should be more than enough. We recommend adding Sodashi Enzyme Face Polish to your weekly routine.

Tip 5: Make sure you’re getting essential fatty acids

EFAs have been associated with a reduction in UV-induced inflammation. They help keep the skin moisturised from the inside, helping the skin to remain hydrated throughout the heat. I recommend incorporating nuts and seeds, flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil and fish into your diet regularly this summer to support your skin’s natural cycle.

Tip 6: Detoxify from the outside in

If using sunscreen makes your skin congested, invest in a good detoxifying face mask to help keep the skin clear and even. We recommend MV Skincare’s Signature Mineral Mask. It's a beautiful white-clay mask that helps soothe, heal and refine. It’s perfect if your skin is feeling a little irritated after a long day at the beach.

Tip 7: Give your skin some much needed TLC

People often think that summertime facials are a no-no, but it’s not the case! Summer facials encourage clear, brilliant skin. Regular facial treatments are most definitely the perfect way to help you achieve healthy glowing skin any time of year. Summertime facials are often focused on repairing as well as protecting your skin from the increased sun and wind damage caused by our more active summer lifestyles. We’re offering a refreshing mix of repairing and brightening ingredients in our summer facials this season, and of course there is the bonus of retreating into our little oasis on Brigantine St. away from the heat of the house, beach and street!
