Nestled off the beated track in the industrial area of Yamba aka paradise, Island Collective is more than just a beautiful homewares store, it is also a creative art space adding to the cultural fabric of this small coastal town. We here in beach peeps HQ vista Yamba every so often and we love to pop by to see all this hidden gem has to ofter whenever we're in town…
We chatted to the friendly Fleur Yorston and asked her to share a bit about her space..
/Who are you...
We are an eclectic lifestyle store situated in the beautiful coastal town of Yamba, Northern NSW. We aim to be a little different with our store by hosting cultural art events and workshops along side our brands that we represent. Owner of Island Collective Fleur Yorston also has her art and design studio onsite as well. Our ethos is to create, connect, exchange, share exhibit and inspire.
/What do you about your location..
There's so much to love about this area! The ocean is a massive part of our daily rituals so Yamba's uncrowded beaches and being surrounded by our stunning Yuraygir National Park makes living here very easy. It's a community that is supportive and caring of one another and the perfect place to bring up our two children Star and Taylor.
/What are you listening to lately…
Our favourite tunes to play are Putumayo world music compilations which bring back memories of journeys already travelled and those yet to travel. You feel like you have travelled the world in a day!
/What do you stock…
We only stock brands that we totally love and share the same passion as us. We fuse original contemporary art, craft, vintage finds with our products. Products such as Stunning carved cow skulls by Losari Home and Woman, Prints by Blacklist, Authentic Morroccan pouffs by Bohemia Design, beautiful Indian block printed table linen and cushions by Walter G, the latest season collections by Goddess of Babylon, Furniture from The Family Love Tree, Ourlieu's cushions and bed linen, and of course The Beach People who we have had since they first begun...but there is so much more..you will have to come for a visit!
/Whats inspiring you right now…
Other than our brands that are constantly inspiring us, lately we have been inspired by traditional Polynesia/Hawaiian Leis for an upcoming project we have in September at The Ballina/Byron airport for their Art At The Airport series and planning new travels abroad...to Sri Lanka
Thanks Fleur, we just love what you do!
